Near me used to return a map.Now it returns three names.

Someone asks for a good one near them and gets three businesses, each with a sentence about why. No map, no ten blue links, no scrolling. Three names, and you are one of them or you are not.

The map pack is not the destination any more

  • Google Business Profile
  • Reviews
  • Consistent details
  • Service area pages
  • Local directories
  • Opening hours
  • Photos
  • Questions and answers

Local search used to end at a map with three pins. A growing share of it now ends at a written answer that names two or three businesses and says something about each. The sentence it says about you is assembled from your listings, your reviews and your site, and if those disagree with each other the model will often just leave you out rather than guess.

The single biggest factor is still your Google Business Profile, and it is the thing most often left half finished. Wrong hours, missing services, no recent photos, questions nobody answered, a category chosen once in 2019 and never revisited. Every gap is a reason for the model to pick the business next door instead.

The second factor is reviews, and not only the average. Recency matters, volume matters, and what the reviews say matters more than either, because the model reads them. Twenty reviews that mention the specific thing you are good at are worth more here than a hundred that say "great service".

The work

What we do for a local business

  • Finish the profile properly

Every field, every service, correct categories, real photos, hours that are right including the odd ones, and the questions section answered by you rather than left to strangers.

  • Make the details agree everywhere

The same name, address and phone number in the same format across every listing that mentions you. This is tedious and it is the foundation, because inconsistent details stop a model being confident all these entries are one business.

  • Turn reviews into a routine

A simple, repeatable way to ask, at the moment the customer is happiest. Steady and recent beats a burst. Replying to them matters too, because the replies are read as well.

  • Pages that answer the real question

One page per service per area, written to answer what someone would ask, not stuffed with the town name. If you serve six areas, that means six pages that each say something true and different.

  • Local directories and mentions

Chamber of commerce, trade associations, local press, community sites. Small individually. Together they are what tells a model you are a real, established business in a real place.

Asked about this

Questions we get from local business clients

Is this just local SEO with a new name?

It shares a foundation and the goal is different. Local SEO works to place you in a map pack. This works to get you named inside a written answer, which draws on your listings and reviews but also on how clearly your site states what you do, for whom, and where. In practice we do both, because the same profile work feeds both.

How many reviews do we need?

There is no threshold to hit. What matters is that they are recent, that they keep arriving, and that they describe the specific work you want to be known for. A steady trickle mentioning the thing you are best at outperforms a large old pile of generic ones.

We serve ten towns. Do we need ten pages?

Only if you have ten pages of true and different things to say. Ten near-identical pages with the town name swapped is a pattern that gets discounted, and a model will not quote any of them. Better to write properly about the areas where you do most of your work.

Do we need a new website for this?

Often not. Most local businesses gain more from the profile, review and consistency work than from a rebuild. We will tell you if the site is what is holding you back, and if it is not, we will tell you that too.

What does it cost for a small local business?

All prices are on the pricing page. For most local businesses the honest answer is that the free audit plus a few weeks of your own effort on profile and reviews gets you a long way, and you should do that before paying anyone. If you want it run for you, the visibility retainer is where it starts.
